Just your average overpriced asian food, in a captive audience. Red Lotus has no competition in West Yellowstone. Service was excellent. Our "twice cooked pork" dish was mostly cabbage with almost no meat to be found. Would not eat here again.....

Bottom line: not authentic and crowded, but the only game in town. To my surprise West Yellowstone seems to have a higher concentration of Asians than Los Angeles, likely due to the busloads of tourist groups here. This makes the Red Lotus very busy and there was a wait here both night were in town. We waited about 45 minutes before being seated. The food is OK. It's not authentic by any measure but is passable, though at this price point you might expect something better. That said most restaurants in town are expensive and priced for tourists so this is not unique to them. Service is OK, although the waitress was very overwhelmed by the large crowd eating there that night. It's a decent switch up from the usual American fare served in the area and there is not much Asian food to be had anywhere in the vicinity of Yellowstone, so probably worth sucking it up and just having their cooking for a night.

Normally I give Chinese restaurants one star reviews because they have awful service. To be fair, this restaurant was pretty good. In fact, a lot better than most! They were quick about taking our order, giving us our food, and handing us the bill. The waitress even asked if I needed a refill on my coke! So I would have given this a two star rating. HOWEVER, there were many factors that result in a one star. First, the food is very bad. The fried rice was very soggy and the egg drop soup was bland. Normally, this wouldn't be the end of the world. HOWEVER, the food is very expensive as well! Comparable to eating at a western restaurant! The one advantage of eating at crappy Chinese restaurants like Panda express would be the low sticker price. However, think of food that tastes worse than Panda express, for double the price! Plus they automatically add in the gratuity! What's worse, they tried to pull a fast one on us by charging us 10$ more than what we actually ordered. Luckily, my wife caught them in the act. Based on all this: one star. Having spent some time in Yellowstone now, their business model is clear. The Chinese tour groups come through and deposit all the chinese people at this restaurant (or at the nearby China First). So basically, these restaurants don't really need to try because they will always have customers.

Boycott! Selling disgusting and cruelly obtained illegal animal parts! Google for details! Visited and found it to be lousy food as well.

I read through some of the other reviews. Many complaints about the price. This is not IOWA! This is a very very busy tourist town so expect that prices will reflect the location. PRICES ARE REASONABLE FOR YELLOWSTONE! The Red Lotus is my favorite Chinese restaurant in West Yellowstone. Perhaps it does not compare to an awesome Chinese restaurant in San Francisco or New York, but this is Montana. I run a tour company and my Chinese clients like this place. And so do I! I have always been treated well here. I like the hot and sour soup and the Szechuan Chicken. Herman, the owner, has always made myself and my Chinese guests feel welcome.

My husband went to the bathroom and two guys from the kitchen went in, did their business, and didn't wash their hands. Prices were double what they should've been and quality of food was bad. Our "tea" was just hot water with a tinge of yellow. Ordered the combination lunch and never got our soup, although I can't say we much wanted it by that point.

  • Keith S.

Had dinner there last night. The service was lacking but the food was very good. It wasn't until this morning that I found out that a month ago they were busted for selling bear and other animal parts illegally. Sadly, this is factual and they were only fined, mildly. It is for this reason alone I will not eat there again.

Worst food and worst service I ever had in U.S.! And they added the tip in the bill. I thought that's customer's right to decide the tip.

DON'T GO HERE!! The worst so- called Chinese food ever! When we spoke to manager about our dissatisfaction he didn't care. Women's restroom was filthy with clogged toilet and the sink hadn't been cleaned in at least a month. The manager didn't care about that either. Very expensive meal that we wasted our time and money on. Never again !

Don't waste your time or money here even if you can manage to get a table. Crappy service & marginal food. Overall impression: mehhhhhhhh

4 stars for food. Minus one star for being but pricey. We ordered vegetable in coconut curry, vegetable fried rice and sautéed broccoli. Veg in coconut curry is a must try.

Since there is not a lower score, I really have to say, the servicing attitude is too much badly! We said we are going to take out, their attitude change rapidly! I will never suggest this restaurant to anyone else!

Not sure why the reviews are bad . We had an awesome experience here. Food was good and service was fast. This restraunt has nice ambience and perfect place post your yellow stone trip:) . Good options for Indian vegetarians too.

KUNG PAO chicken my foot. more like minced vegetarian wannabe chicken! do u see any chicken? I think the chef mistook celery as chicken

Greatly disappointed in the entire dinner. Not only did they tell us a 10 minute wait that took 30 minutes, they did not set up our table, the food was flavorless and it arrived at room temperature. I would not recommend.

OK. This is my first time leaving a review on YELP and I hope it will be my last. WARNING to everyone, especially CHINESE! Do not try this place! As a Chinese who has stayed in the States for more than 2 years. I have tried my share of authentic Chinese food and American Chinese food. So far, this is the most awful place that I have ever tried. I travelled with my relatives and they wanted to have Chinese food, so I came in even after I read the average 2-star review. I prepared for the worst but it seems that I didn't prepare enough. The food is 1 star rating at best, even for an American Chinese place, sour and spicy soup came warm instead of hot and had a bad chili taste. Combination platter was barely eatable and I can normally tolerate many mediocre food. They had 3 set of menus, a paper one seems ok for tourism place, although a little bit pricy, second set is laminated and fancier, so price starting to climb, third set, Chinese only, price are incredibly ridiculous, bison plate for $48!!! The 4-star American place I tried in town before had a wonderful bison steak for only under $40! I doubt this menu is mostly for Chinese tourist groups and the restaurant will offer commission to the guide and driver who bring in the tourist groups. Above mentioned fact still are not the main reason I had to write my first review, when we finished eating and asked for the cheque. They actually gave me a bill that already billed my 15% tip (Final bill price includes 15% tip)!!! I looked at the waiter like: "Are you kidding me???" I told him: "Bill me the pre-tip price and I will leave my own tip." Honestly, the service was 2-stat at best, no order-helping, no ice water (I know that I am Chinese but you still gotta ask me whether I need ice water or not!) and waiter pretty much didn't care at all whether you liked the food or not. It was more like: "Haha, you came in! Sucker!" Beside, this is the first ever restaurant in the whole States that I tried can shamelessly bill/demand a customer for 15% tip, and I really doubt if they would do the same to anyone who doesn't look like Chinese. In conclusion, I think you heard my story. If you like food and/or has some request for service/dignity, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM RED LOTUS!!!

Good food, good service. For what's available in this neck of the woods you can't go wrong here. The food is fresh and tasty, huge portions two people can't easily eat of one order. Atmosphere is a little loud, the friendly staff make up for it. Yes for Chinese food the prices are a little high but so is every other restaurant in the area. If you have a large family this is still the best bang for the buck. You won't be disappointed!!

Found guilty of possessing illegal meat (bear gallbladders and other items) per westyellowstonenews.com/… . They insist these items were not served to patrons. We had eaten there the night before the newspaper article, luckily vegetarian only, and the food was decent, the service very fast. The restaurant was crowded with Chinese tour bus patrons who seemed to be enjoying themselves.

    (2)
  • Chuhan S.

Went there on a night and there was a long line! The waitress is pretty rude and disorganized. We ordered a beef noodle soup, which is not a menu item, so an additional star for them to accommodate this request. However, there was just nothing right about the soup. We ordered the soup to go because their was a long wait. We really tried carefully to hold the bowl of soup, but still, by the time the soup got to the hotel, all the soup were spilled over all over the paper bag. On top of that, the noodles weren't chinese noodles but angel hair pasta noodles...... I expected a Chinese beef noodle soup 牛肉面... plus there weren't many pieces of beef either. and they charged us $15. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

    (2)
  • Mercedes E.

Unimpressed. All around. Terrible service, sub par food. "10 minute" wait that was really 40... Chicken replaced by celery.... Flavorless is an understatement... Inattentive staff that had to be flagged down for every need, even as simple as a water refill... I wouldn't waste your time or money.

    (1)
  • Jack L.

Prices are slightly higher but justified. The Chinese ingredients are shipped all the way from Salt Lake City, more than 5 hours away! Business is brisk but these guys are fast. Came here for dinner and the restaurant was full, and yet the food came within 10 minutes of ordering! Granted, most of the dishes aren't complex but still it's impressive.

Red lotus offers a pleasant and unique dining experience in the small tourist town of west Yellowstone. We ate our dinner all three nights at the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the oriental themed decoration and the perfect blend of good service, delicious food and generous portions! Would definitely repeat if ever coming back to west Yellowstone and recommend to any Chinese food lovers!

Food was OK, but this restaurant was just busted for buying/serving illegal game. See westyellowstonenews.com/…

A lot better than I expected after reading the reviews. I'm chinese and from Los Angeles...the Mongolian beef was quite good. The orange chicken (my son ordered this) was fine, as was the cashew chicken (my in laws ordered). The chicken lo mien wasn't very tasty, but my other son enjoyed it. My kids wanted the honey walnut shrimp...quite pricey, but it tastes good...but the walnuts weren't warm. Not a big deal to me, though. The hickey fried rice was average (in laws ordered); I was fine with the white rice. Sometimes the wait for water, more tea, or boxes to take our food to go took a while, but oh well. Again, not bad for being in West Yellowstone, IMHO.

    Overpriced and nothing that great.

  • Ning D.

This is the worst Chinese food meal I have ever had. Not about the service (they are OK), not about the environment (this is small town next to Yellowstone), not about the price (it is understandable for charging a veggie dish for $12 at such a town), but all about taste. I ordered Kungpao chicken, Special hot pot, and a mixed veggie dish. Only the veggie dish is somehow eatable (not great, just not something would make you throw up). The chicken was terrible, it was not marinaded, and tasted like it was not fully cooked. They served the food 5 mins after I ordered, I suspect they cook them just for us. The pot is something mixed the terrible chicken, beef, shrimp, tasted exactly same as the Kungpao chicken. BTW, the tip is "automatically" included in the bill by them, so I did't have a choice paying it or not. But that is something that I know I should pay, since the waitress did nothing wrong and should get what she deserve. I am all complaining about the food. I think most of the people here are 1st time dining there, since they are visiting yellowstone. I did regret my decision, and went to another pizza restaurant two blocks away just to get myself stuffed.

We were here visiting Yellowstone park, and didn't know what to expect....but since they have a "Chinese menu" we thought it may be good. Was very disappointed! Food was below average. We asked for low sodium already, but it was pretty salty, especially the hot & sour soup. I couldn't finish it. Our expectation was NOT that high, given the location, but didn't think it would be that BAD! But prices were really High & service was bad! In addition, they put the TIP to the check (before TAXES!). That just means we were FORCED to give them a higher tip even though the service was bad & the food was below avg AND on top of that, we were taxed on the tip as well!!! Just HORRIBLE! Is that legal? IRS wouldn't want to see that....as customers wouldn't feel good about it either!

  • Dai D.

Very rude service !! Don't go there! They treated us like we owe them money ... Food is bad .... It's ridiculous!! 服务态度差到极点 , 我们等了半天,来了个团队,居然让我"滚"一边,不要挡道。。食物简直就跟冰冻万年的东西。。无法入口!!

This establishment brings new meaning to 'cheap Chinese' food. Lacking in both flavor & customer service.

My boyfriend and I found this place by chance while walking around west Yellowstone. It is one of the two Chinese places in town. We were seated right away, our food came out within 10 minutes, our drinks were always refilled right away, the food was delicious and the portions were large. The staff was very nice and the decor was pretty and clean. Definitely recommend!

After an awesome day at Yellowstone, our companions we're craving for some good Asian food. We had high hopes when we walked in because the place was about 75% filled to capacity and almost all the patrons we're Asian. Unfortunately, we were all disappointed with the food. The food tasted so bland, and the prices were so expensive!! If the prices were several dollars lower per entree, I'd probably give them 3 stars. Since they were so expensive, I expected the food quality to be so much better because you're supposed to get what you pay for!! The only good thing about this restaurant was that the service we received from our waitress was very good. Other than that, I would not recommend coming here.

Avoid at all cost. This place is worse than panda express and service is non-existence. Two of us ordered three dishes. The seafood pan fried noodle , twice cooked pork and Salt and pepper shrimp. The seafood noodle was so salty that you couldn't eat it without constantly drinking water, the noodle tasted like left over from days ago and it was not crispy. The twice cooked pork tasted like oyster sauce /w steamed pork, it didn't look or tasted like twice cooked pork at all. The salt and pepper shrimp was small and few in quantity, and felt like it was recooked to just warm it up. The bill came out to be 6X. with a mandatory 15% tips for three pos tasting dishes. I rather donate my 72 to a homeless than to eat here again. Such a rip off. Whoever thinks this place is wonderful or taste good is either writing a fake review or eat worms as their daily meal.

  • Jessica C.

We ordered 5 dishes for a pasty of 4. Only one beef dish was good, and the rest are all like dishes they they put together with the leftovers. Each dish is around 20 dollars, definitely too expensive for Chinese food. They even charged us 15% tips without asking when our party is under 6 people. The restaurant is noisy, and the waiters are rude, and very unhelpful. We asked them for Togo boxes give times, and they still didn't not give us what we wanted! DO NOT GO THERE!

    (1)
  • Baobao F.

Do Not Go. The food was horrible. We ordered three dishes and all of them tasted like sock. The noodle soup we had also had no flavor. I guess they only have one kind of sauce and apply it to everything. If you are from big cities with Chinatowns or authentic Chinese restaurants, you will definitely wanna puke after eating their food. What's more, it is highly overpriced. We spent $93 for four people (I was actually not full and just stopped eating since the food was too disappointing). Again, don not go there and enjoy your trip to yellowstone.

Usually, I would have given a restaurant like this four stars instead of five (a place really needs to blow my skirt up to get a 5!), but I really don't understand the poor reviews, especially those without explanations. And we had excellent service on a Saturday night at 10:00! 1. Yes, the prices are higher than what you may see elsewhere, but this is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. Think about the price you're paying for fuel right now. Gas is expensive! And shipping food this far is expensive, as well. All of the restaurants up here are more than I would expect elsewhere. 3 diner hamburgers and 3 beverages were over $50 at another restaurant. We spent $75 here for house special fried rice, 3 entrees, two beers and an iced tea. 2. The food - I also don't understand the reviews that say everything tastes the same. I had shrimp with broccoli with a light brown sauce. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, as was the broccoli - not over or under done. My husband had chicken in coconut curry. It was flavorful, but not as spicy as he would have liked. Also, when it first came out, there was no chicken. The waitress remedied the situation in about 3 minutes, so, no harm, no foul. (Also the reason that I would have given them 4 stars - but I wanted to see their average increase!) my son had a heaping plate of orange peel chicken, and I can honestly say that both my husband and I thought it was better than PF Changs. The house special fried rice was LOADED with chicken, shrimp, beef, and roast pork, and was not overly salty. Remember - you can always add soy sauce, but you can't take it away. Also - all chicken served was white meat. 3. Tipping - there was no tip added to our bill, so I don't know if that is only done for larger parties. After speaking with the owner, he explained that yes, this is a tourist town, but tipping is not common in all cultures. This is done to protect his wait staff, and make sure that they get paid! As an employee of another business, I wish my boss cared that much about my paycheck! All in all, a very nice experience, with a sweet and attentive waitress, and a nice chat with the owner. I would definitely recommend the restaurant, and I would definitely come back!

  • Likai Z.

Price is Three times higher than usual! Taste is horrible horrible! It reminds me the immoral merchants near the scenic areas in China. In this sense the tourists from China will for sure feel at home.

Do not go! You will feel very bad after having anything there. One star is also overrated!!

  • Jackie K.

Food was great, but portions are not. With the outrageous prices (for Chinese food), we expected that it would be more food for our dollar. Disappointed that a Chinese meal for 5 that cost us over $100 did not fill us up.

  • Yue D.

I'm so disappointed about this place that I have to write down my first ever review since I started to use Yelp in 2012. The soup was cold and the boss wasn't sorry at all. He just said "oh, you know, we are too busy". Food are pricey and not worth it at all. There were fewer than 10 (small) shrimps in a dish that costs $16. Besides, they charged a 18% tax rate on top of the bill, and still miscalculated the total amount, of course, in their favor. I do think that the two and half stars rate is way too kind and generous.

  • Shankar R.

Even thought the ratings are not promising, but we checked here on last Saturday for dinner as most of my friends want to have Chinese food. The dinning area is not so big, but we were seated within 5 minutes. Almost every table is occupied in the restaurant and felt that the food will be also good. We started with corn soup and hot sour soup, I am not a big fan of soups but tasted and they are piping hot. Next we ordered chicken fried rice and chicken chow mien. The food is tasty and delicious and not so spicy. The price was little bit pricey for the portion what you get, but when we were in a place like west yellow stone I wont be thinking about the price. The service is quick, as they served the food for 15 members at a time. No issues with the staff.

  • Jo Dee M.

We just had an absolutely delicious dinner at the Red Lotus. I do not understand all the negative reviews - we walked in without a reservation, were told it would be 15 minutes, were seated in 5 minutes. The place is nicely decorated, and very busy, but not overly loud. The service was excellent and the food was fabulous! We ordered 5 entrees to share and they were all perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients - the veggies were crisp and the meats were tender and flavorful. I would definitely eat here again!

    (5)
  • V W.

We didn't know what to expect, and the 3 of us were astonished. The decor is well-done and the restaurant was clean. And the food! We were amazed. Hot & sour soup--which can vary widely--was great. I had chicken & snow peas, and though there should have been more chicken in the dish, the snow peas were ripe, crunchy, and succulent. My teenaged son, who always gets Gen. Tso's chicken when we eat Chinese food, raved about his. My husband really enjoyed the sweet & sour chicken. We would definitely eat there again, and would probably have, had we discovered this place earlier in our trip.

  • Kyle G.

Flavorless, gelatinous "special corn soup", small overpriced portions, sauces over-thickened with cornstarch and general bland flavors. Oh yeah, if a diner orders the assorted vegatables and tofu in black bean sauce, warn them that the bad fried rice they paid an extra dollar for was prepared with pork; there is a chance they were a vegetarian. On the plus side, nice to find veggies among the usual meat, potato, and pizza parlors that overwhelm western tourist towns.

  • Rex X.

I'm sorry to say it was a bad experience for us! Soup was luke warm and different from what the waiter described. Other 3 dishes tasted the same all with loads of starch. Considering the quality, food here are over priced. Worst part is the check. First our soup was over charged by $4; then we noticed a mysterious tax amount that's more than 15% of our total. When we asked the waiter we were told it's a "tourism tax" for the area. Being tourists this all sounded reasonable. However after a couple of more days in town, none of the places we ate at had this "tax"! The tax was around 3% everywhere else. It's hard to imagine the restaurant can be this dishonest, I surely hope it was just an isolated case of inexperienced waiter...

Late July, our bus tour stayed at the nearby motel, and our tour guide said there were two Chinese Restaurants around the street corner. Red Lotus was the first one we saw. By the look of it, we expected it would be a somewhat Americanized, over priced Chinese place. We were going to look for "the other" Chinese restaurant but we did not see any signs nearby and parents did not feel like walking too far, after a long day and it's getting quite late (probably around 9pm). We walked in and was seated fairly quickly. Looking at the menu and was surprised to see some sort of traditional soup (which usually take at least 4 hours to make) on the menu, but of course, when we tried to order it, the server said it's all sold out. The food was not as Americanized as I thought, but the price was definitely overpriced for the portion they served, but hey, you are right next to the Yellowstone NP West entrance, you expect everything would cost you a few more bucks than in Los Angeles. Our Tofu was cold, seems like they just cook the sauce and pour it over the tofu. The other dish (I think it's broccoli Beef, I was disappointed when they said it's Western Broccoli, not Chinese broccoli) was a bit too salty, the seafood soup did have fair amount fish and shrimps (I think some crab meat too) in it, but it quite disappointing the way they made it (think egg drops/flower soup). Given the location, the price, the time of our visit and the service (and the fact that we had american fast food for the past 4 days), I would give this place a 3 Stars because I think the quality of food would probably be better if we visited earlier. If this place located in LA (even if it's WLA), it would be only 2 stars at most.

I came with my family, who all wanted Chinese food, and we were inclined to forgive any slight misgivings that other Yelpers warned. But we really should have heeded their warnings. Even for a restaurant in an overpriced touristy town, the contrast between quality and price astounded us. There was barely any difference between the 8 dishes that we ordered. All were smothered in a soy-sauced-based cornstarch sauce that made everything taste the same, even the soup and tofu. However this isn't a one star rating, because the service was fast and friendly, the atmosphere was nicely decorated (though filled with people), and the deer meat was deer meat and bison meat was bison meat. They seemed short on supplies and the portions were really small, but they were honest and upfront about what they offered. When we first entered, they told us that tour groups were coming and that it might get really busy. They didn't try to get us to stay, but told us that it might be a while before we get our table, and we got our table under 10-15minutes.

i went here for lunch..i tried their chinese hot pot which is average, the tofu with bean sauce which is okay (quite plain), and house special fried rice which is okay too..the only dish that i like is their mongolian beef...staff were friendly... CONCLUSION = RECOMMENDED!

After a horrible experience at China Fun we decided to try Red Lotus. Made a reservation. When we showed up the place was nearly full and they said they did not have a table for us, despite the reservation. They had two large round tables open and we demanded to have one (5 of us). They refused because those tables were reserved! Having no other available options, we tried to persist and insist on a table, but they would not budge. While we were arguing, a small tour bus unloaded and the people took the two tables. Clearly the tour bus clientele is more important than that from locals! It makes sense: while most of these customers will never come back, their tour companies dump passengers here on a daily basis during the season. They do not want to lose that business. It is also a possible explanation for the mostly mediocre service quality at both Chinese restaurants. They do not care about pleasing possibly recurring customers (locals), because they are way outweighed by the tour companies. After they stated several times they did not feel they could honor our reservation (and seemed to care little about that), we had been there long enough (25 minutes) that a four-top cleared out. They offered it to us with an extra chair. Being out of options we took it. It created major problems in that we order a lot of dishes (I dare say we're probably better cutovers than the tours considering check size), and there was not enough room on the the four-top now used for five. The food was considerably better than at China Fun and we detected little of "the same sauce being used over and over", and "too much starch" as commented in other reviews. We did order mostly very dissimilar dishes, so that may be the explanation. Prices seemed slightly higher than China Fun, but well worth the difference. Prices are a little on the high side compared to what city slickers might pay. I would have given 3 or 4 stars, but still take away 1 due to the reservation debacle and attitude about it.

I was here with my family last night. We were craving for some chinese, so we decided to give this place a try. Oh my god, i would give this 0 star if i can do it. Food is nasty, everything is over priced. Seriously the worse chinese i have ever had .

The food was the worst I have ever had. It was over priced and tastes bland. The service was poor and the dishes were dirty. We were asking questions about menu and the person walked away. Chicken was over cooked and the corn soup had no taste. Do not waste your time and money.

Seated quickly in a packed restaurant. Friendly waitress. Food came out quickly & was hot. Somewhat overpriced but expected in tourist town. $18.00 Combo D average taste-3 large fried shrimp, szechuan beef, pork fried rice, egg roll, corn soup. I have had better & have had worse.

Overpriced for mediocre food... I ordered the hotpot with vege and meat and it's under chef's recommendation. The pork is tough... Vege abit too raw... For a small liitle pot, it costs $18! Omg! I wouldn't mind paying if it's tasty, but it's not!

Nothing really suprised me, just another Chinese place.

If i could give this place less than 1 star Iwould! Not only is the food overpriced, but it's also very bland, and it's dripping in grease. Both my husband and I got very sick from it. I don't give out a 1 star often, but this place deserves it. Steer clear!

If I could split the star rating into service and taste, then I would give 1 star for service and 3 stars for taste. They could NOT handle the 4th of July weekend crowd. Tables were being assigned out of sequence, orders were mixed up / delayed or forgotten. But the food, was quite tasty. Don't try to confuse the chef by making a lot of changes to the actual dish, especially on a busy night.

Most be authentic Chinese food as mini buses with tourists from China stop at the Red Lotus. I saw those and other tourists, as well as locals when I dined there, hungry after a long day going around Yellowstone National Park. The food was tasty with good fresh vegetables which were a nice change after days of driving eating burgers and bar food. Service was fast and attentive. Prices were not excessive.

The food is very decent for being in the middle of nowhere and you can get chinese food. However, the portion of meat in a stir fry or curry is very less. You can literally count the number of chicken strips they give you. Either they were really busy and ran out of food or this is how they run. The service is not very good. Top it off...The bill is all scribbled over and gratituity is already added at 18%...What a rip-off. I don't mind paying 18% -20% when service is good but to force all tourists to pay that and not writing it clearly is wrong. There were people adding more tip on the bill because the bill wasn't legible. They basically don't care because tourists keep the place running. If you want chinese...come here and get take out. Don't waste money paying for service!!!

I would like to give ZERO star for it. It destroyed our awesome Yellowstone day. No service, but min 15% fixed tip (WTF?!), soup was just not cold, tea was cold, and all dishes tastes same. Save your money for something else.

That one word easily sums up my experience at Red Lotus: it was very eh. The food is more or less typical for Americanized Chinese stuff in terms of selection and the dishes offered, and the quality is, as you might expect, barely adequate, if that. The prices were a bit high for this kind of stuff, but I guess that's to be expected in a tourist town, so overall, the experience was very eh.

I thought it was just okay too. The reason I say it is because I thought the price was pricey for what you got. The food (taste-wise) was good, but they should take a couple dollars off some of their entrees.

Place is a unknown lil gem. A pretty new spot, with tasty food. Chinese cooks and american wait staff, as most chinese staff doesn't know English. I love chinese food and am glad to have found a place that both tastes good and doesn't make my stomach hurt after. Will be back

Better than expected, esp. given that it's in W. Yellowstone. We were far more satisfied here than at Serenity Bistro.

Came for lunch. Good ambience. Very quick service. Limited lunch menu but good food. Had the Mongolian beef which was good. NOTE: a 15% gratuity is added regardless of number of people in group!

OMG! This has got to be the worst Chinese food that I've eaten! Extremely expensive for the very small amount of food on plate. I ordered sweet and sour pork...it was micro size pieces of meat in tempura and topped with commercial brand plum sauce out of a bottle...Geez! Nothing authentic here.

Food was passable, but this place gets one star for service. The lady included a hefty gratuity without telling us in the bill - good thing we asked what that "item" was. It was for just the two of us! First place I saw that does that. Watch out.

The food was not that good and the portions were real small. I saw some tour buses unload passengers in front of the location. Not sure they would stay in business if they were not serving so many tourists.

We ordered vegetarian chinese noodles and fried rice. Both tasted awesome.

The service was fast and friendly but the food was very salty even after they took it back and was told they cooked new orders. After reviewing my bill, I discovered that they secretly added a service tip. The cashier said I have to pay the tip for the waitress. I told her tips are optional and I decide the amount for the tip. She took off the tip from the bill. I paid the bill without the tip because of the lousy food and for being sneaky. I will not return to this place and do not recommend it.

The best chinese food you can hope for in West Yellowstone. Now I'm from Seattle, so I'm used to a very good asian food scene, but for this far inland, Red Lotus is great. When I work here for the summer it's the place I go every time I'm craving asian food. Last time I went they were a bit understaffed, but otherwise fantastic.

This restaurant is just open less than two weeks. We found this place purely by chance. We ordered family to Fu,general tao's chicken. The to Fu was a bit undercooked, and the chicken was ok. The waiter was very enthusiastic, and he was making great efforts to make the job perfect. The place was not ready for beer or wine, so it was a pity. The strange thing about this Chinses restaurant is that no Chinese waiter or waitress.

Food is good but just a little pricey; except for lunch. I had heard that there were issues with tips being added to the bill surreptitiously resulting in double tipping. However I did not experience that myself. So check your detailed bill first not your final charge slip.

I saw buses emptying lots of people off and thought that tour bus companies would encourage their patrons to dine in places that had good food. Unfortunately, this was a very wrong thought. This restaurant was the worst I have ever had. I feel bad that I cannot find anything good to say. They have no potstickers on the menu, the soup had 2 kernels of corn and some egg in a clear, tasteless broth that was barely warm. the lunch special came, and I had ordered the mongolian beef. It had only 6 small pieces of meat and the rest was onions. A HALF plate full of onions! the fried rice was tasteless and had only one small piece of bbq pork in it, there were no vegetables in it either. I would never eat there again, nor would I ever suggest anyone else eat there. I don't know how this place stays in business. gross!

I am giving 3 stars, considering the location. You Can't realistically expect authentic Chinese food right next to West Yellowstone park entrance. Decent, clean food. Pretty pricey for what you get. Totally flavored down to please the tourist palate. Good place to fill your tummy after a long day at the park. Nothing more.

As a local, I was greatly disappointed by Red Lotus. We were excited for a new restaurant but found that like most other places in our little tourist town, it was overpriced, average food and terrible service. We had to inquire to find our server who then spent the rest of our meal ignoring us. She took our our food before we were done so that we had to ask for it back. She only checked in with us when we got her attention to get more water. I don't think that we will be back anytime soon, I can have a more pleasant meal at home!

West Yellowstone is an obligatory tourist town that must make all their yearly earning in about six months. There are more tourist traps, fast food joints, and "Chinese" restaurants than rats and cockroaches. Low expectations are probably appropriate for most restaurants here. We tried this place upon recommendation of a local guide. They do have a menu in Chinese, and Mr. Chan the proprietor further recommend fresh trout for this homeboy and his wife. We ordered 3 dishes, the steamed "we only have 4 left" trout, a Chinese vegetable, and a sauté gai lan with beef. All are edible, but nothing to write home about. The meal cost ~$100, about 2.5 times the expected cost of the same meal in any big US city. I suspect they are the best of Chinese food in West Yellowstone. But after a week of steak and potato, this tourist is relieved to have a green Chinese "veggie fix", no matter how humble.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
